With the new season due to start on the 25th February at Doha in Qatar, Team Sterilgarda Berik has finally presented itself and its riders Marco Borciani and Ruben Xaus. The formation is to enter the Italian and world SBK championships. The “Due Cigni” restaurant belonging to the family of Marco Borciani provided the catwalk for the riders and their bikes, Ducati 999 F05s adorned with the team’s new graphics. The team, which is managed by Natale Egi and based in Lonato in the province of Brescia in northern Italy, has clear ambitions for the new season and hopes to be an early visitor to the podium. Marco Borciani told us “I’ve built up a lot of experience in many years of racing with various teams, but whereas I used to feel my hands were tied when problems came up, now I’ve got the freedom to do something about them. This team is my investment for the future. I’d love to carry on in racing even after I hang my helmet up. I don’t want to end up working in the restaurant kitchen! The championships are going to be tough this year, but as a team we’ve got everything we need to do well in the world championship and perhaps for me to win the Italian title at last.”Colleague Ruben Xaus explained, “When I left SBK for Moto GP at the end of the 2003 season, I was second in the championship table. Now I’m all charged up and ready to go again, especially after the news I heard a few days ago that Telecinco has bought the rights to transmit the tests and races live back home. My fans will be able to follow me on live TV at last! I may not have achieved much in terms of results in Moto GP but I’ve certainly learned a lot and I’m looking forward to using my experience and getting back to the form I had in 2003, when I was a real contender for the title.”
